1989 “Courtney” Centerpiece Bowl by Gwathmey & Siegel for Swid Powell

$750.00

A rare and beautiful silver plate "Courtney" centerpiece bowl designed by Charles Gwathmey and Robert Siegel for Swid Powell in 1989. Swid Powell commissioned celebrated architects and designers to create tableware in the 1980s and 1990s and the Gwathmey & Siegel's "Courtney" designs are much less commonly seen than the Richard Meier or Michael Graves designs.

Featuring a hammered, mirror finish, silver plate bowl on an X-shaped base with triangular cut outs, this bowl was clearly inspired by Josef Hoffmann and Arts & Crafts designers. Gwathmey explained that a hammered bowl sitting on a cross base - "has to do with the holder and the held, the frame and the object...creating a third ingredient; how the pieces come together."

In very good vintage condition with minor surface wear and scratching consistent with age and use. Fully signed with "© Swid Powell GS" and "Silver Plated Made in Italy" on base.
