In recognition of Andre Yi’s 2002 CHINATOWNLAND sculpture in Los Angeles’ Chinatown, Todd Hebert (American, b. 1972) has made Yi’s work a theme he continues to return to. In this untitled painting, Hebert captures the hecticness of city life with silhouettes of satellite dishes, TV antennas, and power lines crisscrossing in front of the CHINATOWN land sign. Hebert beautifully capture the pinks, oranges, and yellows of a Southern California sunset in the background, which creates a stunning contrast to the foreground.
