An amazing piece of vintage lucite artwork by Brazilian artist, inventor, and designer Abraham Palatnik (1928-2020) of a toucan in translucent orange, opaque white and translucent mauve. Of Ukrainian Jewish descent, he spent his early life in Palestine before moving to Brazil and becoming known as pioneer in the Kinetic and Op Art movements through his harnessing of technology to create painterly images with light, movement, and shadow. He also designed dozens of acrylic animals as part of a collection sold by the design firm Silon, which he and his brother opened in the 1970s.
His art was featured in exhibitions at galleries worldwide and through Brazil, the Brussels Palace of Fine Arts, and the Museum of San Francisco, as well as being found in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, the Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas.
In very vintage condition with light wear consistent with age. Unmarked.
