A stunning postmodern candlestick holder designed by Lyn Godley and Lloyd Schwan for their furniture, tabletop, and jewelry design company Godley-Schwan (1984-1998). Sitting on a black and turquoise base, the candelabra is constructed from lacquered wood, stainless steel, and aluminum in a fantastic contrast of colors and textures that is very much in keeping with the designers' aesthetic in the 1980s and early 1990s, as well as that of Ettore Sottsass, Alessandro Mendini, Andrea Branzi and the rest of the Memphis group. Their clients included the MoMA Design Store, Geoffrey Beene, Neiman Marcus, Barney's NY, DC Comics, Entertainment TV, and Sony, and their work is found in the collections of the Modern Museum of Art, the Museum of Art & Design and the Denver Art Museum.
In very good vintage condition with light wear consistent with age. Marked on underside with manufacturer's sticker "GODLEY SCHWAN MADE IN U.S.A."
