Postmodern Cross Bowl by Richard Meier for Swid Powell

$495.00

Sometimes referred to as the Cross Bowl and other times as the X-Base Bowl, this postmodern silver-plated bowl is one of Richard Meier's simplest and most iconic designs for Swid Powell, the American housewares company renowned for collaborating with a long list of high profile architects. In 1985, architect and designer Richard Meier was commissioned to design an electroplated nickel silver bowl for mass production. His design features a shallow bowl sitting on a fixed cross base that evokes the work of early 20th Century Viennese workshop, the Wiener Werkstatte. While best known for his public and commercial buildings, Meier's designs for Swid Powell can also be found in the collections of many major museums.

In good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use, including a few light surface scratches. Marked on base: "Swid Powell / copyright RM / Silver Plate / Made in Argentina"
