A sleek glass coffee or cocktail table that combines elegance, simplicity and functionality, the Ion coffee table designed by Konstantin Grcic in 1997 for ClassiCon is a stunning piece of furniture designed by one of the most famous German industrial designers of his generation. Featuring a frame of brushed stainless steel and a satin turquoise glass table top that creates a subtle contrast with the metal frame, Grcic's innovative design cleverly hangs the glass from the frame so it looks as though the glass is floating.
Grcic (born 1965) is closely associated with ClassiCon as he began a working relationship with the company in 1991. He has also designed furniture, lamps and industrial products for Hugo Boss, Rado and Galerie Kreo, as well as winning multiple international design awards, including the prestigious Compasso d'Oro. His work is found int eh collections of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris), the Museum Bojimans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam), Haus der Kunst (Munich, 2006), The Art Institute Chicago (2009) and the Vitra Design Museum (Weil am Rhein).
