Designed for B&B Italia in 1986, Antonio Citterio's Sity sofa system was awarded Italy's most prestigious design award, the Compasso D'Oro, in 1987. This perfectly postmodern daybed, which can also be used as a sofa, is an example of minimalist form and perfect workmanship. It has a black leather covered steel frame and a black leather asymmetrical backrest supported by polished aluminum uprights and set at an angle. Cushion has been prefessionally recovered in a dark gray Knoll upholstery textile with faint blue accents. One of the world's most respected designers, Citterio has produced work for Flexform, Flos, Hermès, Iittala, Kartell, Maxalto, and Vitra.
In good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. The leather on the seat back has started to open up at two of the seams but can be turned to face behind the piece and is not visible. Alternately, the back and supports can be removed from the daybed completely with a standard sized hex key. From a collector who purchased it from B&B Italia in New York City in the late 1980s. Signed with embossed manufacturer mark on the seat.
