An original-production Crinkle Lamp by Lyn Godley and Lloyd Schwan, made by Godley-Schwan in 1996. The shade is a single sheet of translucent white plastic, hand-crushed and heat-set so no two examples fold the same way, seated on a round metal base with a candelabra socket and black cord.
Godley-Schwan operated from 1984 to 1998, and the Crinkle Lamp was the last piece Godley and Schwan designed together before the partnership ended. It entered the Museum of Modern Art's design collection in 1998, and examples are also held by the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields. Lyn Godley's studio reissued the lamp in later years, but the label shows this is a first-run example from the original company.
In very good condition with age and wear consistent with use, including light surface marking to the shade and one small crack within a fold, both visible on close inspection and not visible when the lamp is lit.. Retains the original factory label reading GODLEY-SCHWAN, MADE IN THE USA, © 1996, with the 40-watt maximum warning. It has has been tested and works.
