A unique John Risley-inspired postmodern arm chair handmade by Ries Niemi, an artist and craftsman who creates sculptures and public installations using industrial fabrication techniques and industrial materials. Niemi's Head Chairs series is part of his body of sculptural artworks that also serve as functional objects.
Using pieces of steel rebar and scrap metal, the chair's whimsical back depicts an almost Cubist face while the arms are fashioned into lassos. The chair is all metal with welding at the joints and a black splatter patterned powder coat finish. (There is some finish damage to the seat - see pictures.)
Signed "MANMADE 1990" on the seat.
