A charismatic and sinister design from 1993 by American artist Kenny Scharf for Swatch. Produced as a wristwatch and also in this Swatch Maxi over-sized seven foot tall wall clock version. Scharf's work is humorous, pushes boundaries, and is always provocative. For this design, he produced a fanged monster on the clock's face, which is surrounded by a red case, while green snake-like lines are depicted on the transparent plastic straps of the watch form.
Scarf first found success in New York's 1980s East Village art scene alongside Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, with whom he shared a mentor: Andy Warhol. Scharf has exhibited in New York, London, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, Milan, and Zürich. His work is in the collections of The Bass, the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the Stedelijk Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, among others.
