An exceptional mid-century modern George Nelson Executive Office Group credenza for Herman Miller. Walnut case with rich grain and original finish, well preserved walnut top, chrome accents and original legs, and two walnut veneer sliding doors with chrome pulls.
Versatile enough for media storage (books, LPs, etc) or stereo equipment in a living room, organizing office materials, or as a bedroom dresser. Left side has one large file drawer and three drawers with movable dividers; right side has 1 adjustable shelf and 2 drawers, one of which holds hanging files.
In vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. One and a half inch veneer damage to top left corner of front, nicks on several corners, and a half inch hole was drilled in one sliding door to install a plunger lock. Lock not included. Back of piece is painted black.
This credenza was donated by IBM to the Fairfield State Hospital (a psychiatric hospital in Newtown, CT) and purchased from the estate of the former head of psychiatry at Fairfield. Original IBM inventory label on one leg.
