Designed in 1958, Tapio Wikkala' Ovalis vase for iittala is a perfect example of the simplicity of shape in modern design. Originally in production from 1959-1966, the Ovalis vase was again produced in 1977-2006, from which this piece emerged. Wirkkala designed over 400 glass objects and countless other sculptures and innovations. This simple oval, elliptical shape has parallel sides, a cut flat rim, and a white glass lining, making it a perfect minimalist design.
In excellent vintage condition with only one tiny 1/32" mark at bottom of one side. Signed "Tapio Wirkkala" on underside. This design can be found in the permanent collection of the MoMA.
