A set of four of 20th Century Italian design icons in black saddle leather, the CAB 412 chair by Mario Bellini for Cassina. When first produced in 1977, the CAB was the first chair to feature a free-standing leather structure, inspired by how human skin fits over our skeleton. The leather upholstery is constructed from sixteen pieces of saddle leather, which are individually die-cut and sewn together. The leather is then zippered over the tubular steel frame and the polyurethane foam padded seat. The chair is now part of the permanent collection at the New York MoMA. It is perfect for the dining room, office, or as a side chair.
In very good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use, including light wear on the legs. Made in Italy and purchased by the single owner from Cassina in New York City in the late 1980s. This set has a lovely original patina. Cassina label can be found on the bottom of each seat.
