Vintage Cream Ericsson Ericofon Cobra Phone

$125.00

One of the icons of 20th century design, the Ericofon by Ericsson, known as the "cobra phone" for its sleek, modern, and serpentine styling. The Ericofon was designed in the late 1940s and went into production in 1956. Because the Bell System in the United States did not permit 3rd party equipment on their network, the Ericofon could only be used by independent telephone companies in the United States. North Electric in Galion, Ohio manufactured the Ericofon for the North American independent market under contract with Ericsson of Sweden.

The first phone to combine dial and handset in to a single unit, the Cobra phone sits upright on the rotary dial keeping the center red button depressed. Pick up the phone to answer or dial a phone number. Examples of the cobra phone can be found in important museum design collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.

All original parts including the original coil cable. In excellent vintage condition with on tiny crack over the 1 from screw over-tightening (see photo). Current plug will need to be installed before use.
